Josip Pino Ivančić

Josip Pino Ivančić (Pula, 1951) is a Croatian performance artist, multimedia artist, musician, and conceptual author. He has been active on the alternative art scene since the early 1970s, when he became involved in the emerging currents of conceptual art and performance. Throughout his long career, he has developed an artistic practice that combines performance, music, installation, social activism, and experimental media. He is particularly known for exploring the relationships between labor, identity, and social change, with his experience working at the Uljanik shipyard in Pula leaving a profound mark on his artistic expression.

During the 1980s, Ivančić was also active in music projects, most notably through the alternative rock band GustapH and His Good Spirits (GustapH i njegovi dobri duhovi). Since the 1990s, he has become one of Croatia’s most recognized performance artists. His works and actions have been presented at numerous exhibitions, festivals, and art events in Croatia and internationally. In contemporary art, he is recognized as an artist who consistently blurs the boundaries between art and everyday life, often employing humor, irony, and social critique as his primary means of expression.
