Šahin Šišić
Šahin Šišić (born in 1961 in Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is a photographer, cinematographer, filmmaker, and screenwriter. He studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and gained international recognition with his film Margina 88, which received the Golden FIPA Award in Cannes in 1989. During the Siege of Sarajevo, he documented everyday life in the city, resulting in the award-winning film Planet Sarajevo (1994), widely regarded as one of the most significant cinematic testimonies of wartime Sarajevo.
As a cinematographer, he worked on feature films including Sex – Public Enemy No. 1, Holiday of Emptiness, Sevdah for Karim, Body Complete, and Crossroads. Alongside his film work, he has developed an extensive photographic practice, particularly through his long-term documentation of Roma communities, urban environments, and people living on the margins of society.
His films and photographs have been presented at numerous international festivals and exhibitions. Characterized by a combination of documentary observation, humanistic insight, and a strong personal vision, his work continuously explores themes of identity, migration, social change, and human resilience.
